Call for Workshops

The ICIDS conference series has a long-standing tradition of bringing together theoretical and practical approaches in an interdisciplinary dialogue. The motto for ICIDS 2013 “Connecting Narrative Worlds” expresses this need to build bridges of understanding across different fields to make even better use of the immense potential of interactive narrative. The objective of ICIDS 2013 is to promote understanding and dialogue between A.I. researchers, designers, transmedia and digital artists, narratologists and digital game scholars. In this respect the ICIDS 2013 Workshops section aims to bring together members of interactive digital narrative community with shared interests to meet in the context of focused participatory discussions, practical sessions and demonstrations.Each workshop are expected to generate ideas that will give the interactive narrative community a novel, organized way of thinking about the topic or that suggest promising directions for future research and practices. A short description (2 pages) in Springer LNCS publication format will be included in the proceedings of the conference.

Workshops provide the opportunity to:

introduce works in progress and receive feedback from a highly qualified audience;
raise discussions on recent issues and developments, both theoretical and practical;
showcase and demonstrate new digital tools;
open and reinforce the interdisciplinary dialogue between Interactive Digital Storytelling and other related fields.
A general introductory workshop, aimed at students from local universities, is also welcome.

Traditionally, ICIDS workshops may span from a half day to a full day. To make them more accessible to all participants, shorter sessions – from 90 minutes to 3 hours – are also welcome.

Workshops might be promoted with a short introductory session during the main conference to enhance participation and to gather additional interested participants and start the discussion early. Workshop organizers might also be asked to provide a short wrap-up talk to be given to the general audience of the ICIDS Conference and a short report of the workshop to be published on the conference website.
